The foundational scripture for MBS is found in the Gospel of John Chapter 5, where Jesus finds a man with an infirmity for 38 years. The man is in a place called Bethesda, where many sick people were waiting to get into a pool with the belief that the first to get in would be healed. Jesus asked this man a very important question that we need to ask ourselves:
“Do you want to be made well?”
Instead of saying yes, the man said:
“Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
This man said 3 things to Jesus: (1) I am not capable/good enough (2) Others are more capable/better than me (3) It is because of others that I am in my condition.
Jesus gave the man four directions for holistic healing:
- Rise” (physical) – Get up, see the world from an upright perspective.
- “take up your bed” (mental) – Control that mental crutch that you used to feel comfortable in an unhealthy place.
- “and walk.” (progression) – Move forward in your goals and purpose. Do not stay in a place of sickness.
Immediately the man took up his bed and walked. But Jesus was not finished with him. He later found the man in Church (the Temple), where he was able to give him a last critical message.
“See, you have been made well. (4) Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” (Spiritual). – Live a fulfilling spiritually, healthy life through salvation and purpose (Romans 10:9).
In this scripture, Jesus gave each of us the formula for everlasting wellness. MBS Counseling Services wishes each of you every blessing.
